In Him Is No Sin!
Or Has God Gone Mod?

By: Joseph H. Murray

“And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, neither known Him” (1John 3:5–6).

No true child of God can err from the way of righteousness and be comfortable or satisfied, because it’s not his or her true nature to live contrary to God’s will for their lives.

“For He [God] hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2Cor. 5:21).

Some, or should I say many, have sinned since being born of God. Should we, because of this, relinquish or give up our faith in God? No! For this is the time we need Him most. And He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. And the beloved apostle John assures us in these words: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And He is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1John 2:1–2).

We that are born of God should not depart from our profession of faith because we stumble and occasionally fall into sin but should the more tenaciously hold on to the nail-scarred hand of our only hope, Jesus Christ the righteous.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb. 4:14–16).

The Scripture has set forth a true pattern whereby we can know if we are in Him. John further goes on to say in his writings, “He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked” (1John 2:4–6).

We have no guarantee that we can walk without fault or failure except when we walk in the Spirit and our lives are motivated by the Holy Ghost of God.

Listen to what Peter tells us in his first epistle: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that we should follow His steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth: Who, when He was reviled, reviled not again; when He suffered, He threatened not; but committed Himself to Him that judgeth righteously: Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls” (1Pet. 2:21–25).

In the title of our message, we asked, “Has God Gone Mod?” We ask the same of our Lord. Has He become sinful since His death and ascension back to His throne at the right hand of God? No! No! A thousand times, No! Not only has He not become sinful, but neither can He undo the suffering of the stripes upon His back in Pilate’s judgment hall for the healing of our sicknesses and diseases – nor His death upon the cross for the penalty for sin.

We are the only ones who are to blame if we spurn the mercy that has been extended to us by refusing to use the grace of God yet extended to make straight paths for His feet to walk in and we in Him. And again, we quote, “Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not” (1John 3:6).
