Perfection

By: Joseph H. Murray

“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect” (Matt. 5:48).

This is a commandment given by Jesus which, in the sight of man, cannot be accomplished, because he wouldn’t know a perfect man if he met one along the way.

Perfection is known by perfect knowledge, and man’s knowledge is not perfected yet. Paul said, “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away” (1Cor. 13:9–10).

Paul is not saying that all knowledge will be done away, but that partial knowledge shall be done away, for he goes on to say, “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (1Cor. 13:12).
