For Unto Whomsoever Much Is Given

By: Joseph H. Murray

“For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more” (Luke 12:42–48).

And James wrote this: “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).

The apostle Peter made these sayings of Jesus and James more binding in these words: “For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, the dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire” (2Pet. 2:20–22).

John the beloved pinned another tail on this kite when he wrote, “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: But he that doeth evil hath not seen God” (3John 11).
