God Is Light

By: Joseph H. Murray

“This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (1John 1:5).

The Creator of all light is God. In the beginning, “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Gen. 1:3). All light, natural or supernatural, came from God.

“The Light of the World”

Until Jesus came into the world, the light of the world was the law given to Moses on Mt. Sinai. It began in this manner: “And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he [Moses] looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt” (Exod. 3:2–3).

From this experience Moses was called of God and sent back into Egypt to bring God’s people out of bondage. He obeyed God and led his brethren out by the hand of God, and was given the law, as instructions in how they should live in order to reach Canaan’s land.

The light did not die or go out when it disappeared from the bush but appeared again when the Hebrews began their journey.
